[biblegateway passage=”Proverbs 30:11-14″ display=”Proverbs 30:11-14″];
God most times speaks to us on a generational point of view. And every generation has peculiar characteristics. The first commandment with a promise from God was the instruction to honour our parents. There is no blessing from heaven when we dishonour our parents. The fact that they sometimes misbehave does not mean we should dishonour them. It is a commandment and not a suggestion.
2 Timothy 3:1-2(KJV): “Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you: 2.And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith”
A calling for God’s judgment at the end would be for the unthankful attitude of men. One way through which God’s wrath is going to come upon people is when they are unthankful and disobedient to parents. In fact, many parents would go to hell because of their children. Like in the case of Samson, his parents were not firm with him making him not to regard their instructions. But, if the parent tries hard to handle the child with firmness and he does not succumb to discipline, the child bears his sin. The question is now that “are we going to live like everyone in our generation or we are going to step aside and become another type of generation”?
Judges 2:10-12(KJV): “And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, which knew not the LORD, nor yet the works which he had done for Israel. 11. And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim: 12.And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger.”;
2 Timothy 2:2(KJV); “And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.”
Psalms 22:30(KJV): “A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.”
It is the responsibility of this generation to properly instruct the next. We are in this mess as a nation because no one is instructing the next and incoming generation. The wealth of a father can even die off, if he does not think generationally. What are we going to leave as inheritances for our children? Abraham did not give money to his children instead he gave God to them. It is instructive to know that throughout the ministry of Joshua, the ark of covenant was scarcely mentioned. Joshua supposedly wanted the children of Israel to be able to depend on the leadings of God.
Even the advent of the digital age has gradually broken relationships and brought about the mindset of individualism which can destroy. One of the things that the enemy has been attacking so far is the family. The Church is more than a place to prepare people to go to heaven, it it meant to prepare generations. The banana tree does not die without having replacements for himself. We should not say that we are too young.
“This [is] the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah.”
Psalms 24:6
“But ye [are] a chosen geneartion, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light”
1 Peter 2:8-9
- We have been chosen for a time like this so we should not mess up.
- We have access to God and authority over darkness as Royal Priests [a typology of Jesus].
- We are citizens of heaven which makes us a Holy nation.
- We are a peculiar people because we know God. (Some troubles will hit the earth that will show the world that we are a peculiar people)
We owe the generation after us a legacy.
