The Business of our Lives

Text: Genesis 2:15

We were created to work and that work has to be meaningful. When God put Adam in the garden, He gave him a mandate to till the land. This means that God expected him to work.

Our lives cannot be meaningful when we do not do meaningful things with our time. Looking through the story of Israel, we see that God never wanted them to be lazy. Even while He made manna available to them, they still needed to put in the effort to gather.

Every one of us has gifts and talents that we can use to make meaning out of life. It’s a problem when God puts things inside us and we do not make use of them. The wisdom of God is that in our places of assignments, we will find Him and express His life.

Every one of us will give account of the time we spent here on Earth; God will ask about the talents and gifts He gave us and how we are able to maximize them for His glory.

If God gave Adam a responsibility to take care of the garden, then it is our responsibility to take care of the spaces in which He has placed us. While we are seeking eternal life, we ought to also seek to make our earthly lives meaningful. We have to make use of the opportunities that come our ways to achieve God’s purpose for our lives.

We are better advantaged than Isaac and Jacob who lived successfully in their times because we have the Holy Spirit living inside of us. The problem with many of us, however, is that we cannot interpret and understand the ways of the Spirit. We have not maximized our fellowship with Him.

Daniel became ten times better than his colleagues by attending both the School of the Spirit and that of the Chaldeans. Our lives should be rooted in what the word of God says. We can learn everything we want to learn in the secular world but we should be governed by the superior knowledge that comes from the word of God.

Talking about earthly ventures, what are you good at? What can you do that can bring you into wealth? You may not even be good at anything now but if you are passionate, you can train for it and plan towards becoming excellent at it.

In conclusion, our lives is a business venture that is expected to be fruitful. The problem with many of us is that we do not know how to maximize the daily 24 hours that God has given to us. We need to prayerfully plan our lives and make God proud when it’s all said and done.
