HONOUR TO GOD’S SERVANT

14th December, 2021

Minister: Pst. Dele Olubi

As believers, it is okay to want to know the source of every man of God but caution must be set in place so that we don’t run into error. It was easy for Abraham to identify with Melchizedek because they had a common ground. As recorded in Genesis 14:18ff, Abraham was able to identify Melchizedek as a priest of the Most High.
Howbeit, whether a prophet, a priest or an average Christian, 1 Peter 2:17 admonishes us to honour all men. When you see a servant of God, your first point of call toward such should be honour. This honour is seen in the relationship between Abraham and Melchizedek; Abraham honoured Melchizedek by giving him his tithe. Although this does not automatically mean you give your tithe to a Pastor.
The signs on a man of God will always be there but the sign will not always be the first thing. Usually, the covenant comes before the sign as demonstrated in Exodus 4:2ff. Firstly, God had to connect with Moses on the basis of the covenant He had with his fathers before He gave him the signs of His calling. Therefore, the signs should not be the first thing to look out for, rather, their relationship and intimacy with God.
God’s messengers are not to be respected because they wear good clothes. Not everyone of them will be able to wear trending clothes. They should be honoured because they are representatives and servants of God, irrespective of their appearance.
As much as Elijah was considered as a rash man, we need to understand that in his days, the prophetic operated in a company. Be careful when dealing with anyone who is all alone. You should not also be a lone ranger. The covering of the leaders placed over you is also important in judging a true man of God. Therefore, follow the right leaders and listen to their instructions.
