Companionship

When God created the world, He made everything in twos, including man, because of companionship. Companionship means to have a relationship with someone. It is a very important aspect of our Christian walk as believers and children of God. It is God’s idea that we should not be or walk alone. We can see the effect of having a companion in the institution of marriage. There’s more grace, more life, more results and more productivity because, like the Bible says, one will chase a thousand but two will chase ten thousand.

There are several kinds of companies in which one can find him/herself. There is a company of wise men and there is a company of fools (Psalm 13:20): As believers, we are to walk with the wise so we can have fruits that will abide. The five foolish virgins in Matthew were not conscious of what the Lord had for them and they missed out. They could not make the right decisions like the five wise virgins.

The is a company of people who are bent on destroying others. They do not see anything wrong in saying terrible things about others and deceiving people from the way of truth. There is another company of men that steals (Isaiah 1:23). These ones love to take things from other people and defraud them. These evil companies should not be named among us as believers. God is interested in fellowship and in companionship but He wants us to keep the right ones.

Mark 1: 20

James and John, the sons of Zebedee, worked together in companionship which Jesus, endeared them to Him. John and James were also very focused and committed to the things they were doing. It was in this act of service that Jesus found them worthy and made them His disciples. Jesus saw that they had the kind of heart that would be willing to serve. Jesus saw how these brothers stayed to mend their nets.

Anytime we come to church, we come together as one seeking fellowship with God. This is companionship and the purpose is to show forth the kingdom of God to the world. Matthew 18:19-20 – Anytime there is an agreement between any two or three people who share the same relationship with Christ, there is nothing they cannot achieve. We should be companions of people who believe in the word of the Lord and who do not walk as fools. We should not forsake the assembly of one another but come together in the spirit of oneness (Philippians 2:25).
