UNDERSTANDING THE TIMES

PASTOR RICHARD ASHAOLU

Sometimes, we might feel lonely in the process of doing the right thing. Especially when we are standing against the currents. There is nothing as good as a word of encouragement, knowing and being told that we are doing the right thing. We humans usually have a problem of security. There are some times, things happen in the church and we don’t have a theology to explain it. In those moments when we don’t have these theologies to explain things, we must learn to hear God.

We should also learn to invest in our sons and daughters, then they would be able to fight with the enemies at the gates with us. The focus is not meant to be on the enemies alone.

Saul thought he was doing the right thing. It took Paul to be blind before his eyes got opened to know the truth. We are implements in the hands of God. And our success is found only in our obedience to God.

There is this lie and mentality we have in our head that we can only have success in the cities of Lagos, Port-harcout, Abuja or Ibadan. The economic line or curve is in cycles. When it goes bad, we call it recession and when it is good, we say we have a boom. The greatest mistake we can have is choosing a career without considering the kind of lifestyle we want to live when we age sixty years. Most of us make decision based on present convenience and not on a vision.

We are in a generation of people that the success of their marriage is mainly determined by economic situations. We are in a generation of people that their future is shaped by the issue of what to eat.

Children are subjected to different things they shouldn’t have been subjected to. Cartoons, DSTV and movies have been left to tutor them.

About 1800 years ago, Libya used to be a place where Churches had dominated. Years ago, the scripts of how civilization would be played had been decided, and we are ignorantly playing it out. Some Muslims never chose to be Muslims, rather their fate has been decided in their culture thousands of years ago. In reality, we are not walking as lights of the world. Many Christians are suffering right now because they don’t plan to invest in any meaningful thing because they believe that rapture is at hand.

Christians are not investing anymore to enhance God’s kingdom because of their thoughts on the earnestness of rapture.

There are three types of education that would make a man self sufficient, they are:

+ Scholastic education (to think, rationalize, read and write)

+ Professional education (to build a career)

+ Financial literacy

There is now a global shift to entrepreneurship as the new next thing. Human beings will no longer be needed at work stand in the coming days. Companies are looking for ways to make jobs quicker, easier and they pay less. When God told Isaac not to leave for Egypt, God knows why he said so. As some doors are closing, some are opening. We need to understand the changing times and seasons.

The question is “why do we do what we are doing”? God is not against us being blessed. And more importantly, we must learn how to balance spirituality and our finances.
