Taking Advantage of Your Fears

Minister: Pastor Seyi Osanyinbi

There is really nobody who has never been afraid of something before. Fear comes to us naturally as part of the nature of sin. There is the fear of God that we ought to have and pray for. If God will bless a man, He will start by blessing him with His fear because this kind of fear has benefits (Psalm 34:4-6. Proverbs 9:10).

There is also the fear of man which the Bible warns us against; we should honour men but not fear them. There are other fears such as fear of animals, height and other physical things. There is also a fear that comes from worries and anxieties and this holds many people down.

In dealing with fear, we must choose the kind of testimonies we listen to and believe. Bad testimonies (wrong stories) can be sources of fear to us. Also, worry is a manifestation of fear and must be stopped. When we meet situations that bring us into fear, we should see them as opportunities to call upon the name of the Lord, so we can have our own testimonies. We must always take advantage of our negative situations. If a need arises, we should consider it an opportunity for God to show up for us. Our troubles are basically opportunities for God to help (Philippians 4:6-8).

God wants us to put our trust in Him, not in man. We should never be too proud to come before God and present our requests. We must never accommodate fear because we have not received the spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind. We must always take advantage of our fears, believing that God is sufficient and able to help us surmount them.
