The Seven Editions of the Revelation of the Divine Law

Text: 2 Kings 13: 14-19

Minister: Pastor Seyi Osanyinbi

Today, we will talk about seven ways by which God has revealed His will to us.

  1. Through nature (Psalm 19).

If you want to know more about God, look at nature, look at creation. Everything in creation speaks about God, so you cannot claim ignorance that God exists. When Paul was trying to explain the issue of sin to the Romans, he made it clear that God has made everything that needs to be known of Himself visible through creation (Romans 1:18 – 19). God has preached His law and His will through nature. Even our ancestors had the privilege to know about the Supreme Being.

  1. In Our Consciences. (Romans 2:15)

After the fall of Adam, God kept printing the testimony of His will in the heart of men, so deep down within every person is the knowledge of what is right or wrong. That is why it is easy for anyone to know when he or she sins.

  1. Through the Mosaic Law

This was about God coding his law on the tablets of stones. The basis of the Mosaic Law was predicated on the covenant God had with Abraham, so without the Abrahamic covenant, there would not have been the Mosaic Law. The aspect of the blood sacrifices and priesthood was given in order to save them when they break the revealed will of God as expressed in those laws. Abraham did not need all that because He walked with God and fulfilled all that was latter written in the law.

Deuteronomy 17:18 – 19

We have to be acquainted and grounded in the word of God so that our conduct will align with what it says. So many cannot decide on major life issues because they do not know what the will of God is. So Joshua said that the book of the law must not depart from us. We ought to meditate upon it day and night.

  1. In Christ

After Moses, there was no other revelation about the will of God until Christ came. Before Christ, anyone looking for the will of God had to always refer to the Law of Moses. But when Christ came, everything in the Mosaic Law was made flesh. Mind you, grace was also embedded in the law and Christ came as an embodiment of grace and truth. That was why He said that He had not come to break the law but to fulfil it.

  1. By the Scriptures (Romans 15: 4; 2Timothy 3: 15 – 16)

After Jesus’ resurrection, it was necessary to write all His instructions and teachings down so that new and old disciples could have a uniform standard of belief. All the revelations of God prior to that time was written down in books and codified for us to read (Luke 1:1-4). The only purpose of the scriptures is to reveal God. Everyone who wrote a book in the scriptures keyed into this, including Solomon (Songs of Solomon). It was said of Solomon that he had insight into the things God created which was why he was able to write about them. It is thus our responsibility to be able to give the right and consistent interpretation to the scriptures because it has the ability to make us wise (2 Timothy 3:15).

  1. In the Heart (Hebrews 8:10)

God is moving from revealing Himself through the scriptures to revealing it through our individual hearts. This sixth level of divine revelation is what God is doing in our present time. So creation is waiting for the time when our hearts will fully become the carriers of the law just like those stones in the time of Moses (2 Corinthians 3:3).

  1. Manifestation of the Sons of God

The manifestation of the Sons of God will be the most powerful move of God, which of course will not come without preparation. So God is preparing us and building the stability of “doing the word” in us. This is a time of preparation towards the glory that is ahead. All the while before the time came for the Saviour to be born, heaven was preparing Mary for what was ahead. So while people prayed for the coming of Christ, heaven was making ready a woman.

The law that Job held on to throughout his trial had long been written in his heart. He probably did not know he would go through anything, but when the time came, there was something already written in his heart that could respond to the circumstance (Job 13:15).

What is being written in your heart? Until it becomes natural for you to do the word of God, His glory will not be revealed. As He writes His law in your heart, you do His word, and become living testaments and show creation the proof of His will.
