PASTOR ‘DELE OLUBI:
One thing we should have in mind is that the Old and the New Testament is not a division of the bible. We can be in the New Testament and operate by Old Testament methods. The Old Testament model of doing things is quite different from the new. It takes the Holy Ghost to bring us to the understanding of the New Testament. There is an upgrade needed in understanding how the new functions differs from the old.
1 JOHN 5:10-11
“He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.” (KJV)
We must come into the understanding that somebody died for our transgressions. It is the testimony that God has given about himself (it is exclusive to God). There are certain things that we do and we do not know how far they go to affect us, which is why we have to be mindful of the quality of our hearts. The Old Testament was also a testimony of God but it was not the complete testimony. One of the benefits we come into in the New Testament is hearing God. Every one of us has access to the throne.
ACTS 2:17
“And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:” (KJV)
If God brings us in a relationship with him, he starts with communication. As we come into new birth and are baptized in the Holy Spirit (even before the baptism), our inner witnesses begin to function. Hearing God must be explored, we have to pay serious attention to it. Hearing God isn’t reserved for just elders in the church. We need to be disciplined and we also need to continually learn so that we can understand the workings of God. We won’t go far with God if we have not cultivated the habit of communication with Him personally. Personal communication with God does not hinder God communicating with us through other people. God is always speaking to us, it is our response that matters. One of the things that hinders us from hearing God is when we tend to understand most occurrences in the context of. We should always be conscious of the fact that we are spirit beings.
